The Path Less Traveled

They say all roads lead to Rome. That may be so, but the question remains: which path do you choose? Urban roads are covered in painted signs. It looks as if Michelangelo was let loose with a paintbrush. But without those painted road signs, we could easily take the wrong turn.
Deuteronomy 1:2 tells us that it should have taken the Israelites about 11 days to walk to the Promised Land. Well, 40 years later... they clearly didn't have any painted road signs, or did they? Goodness, yes! They had a massive "Overhead Road Sign" (the pillar of cloud and fire), but they constantly wondered if they had made the right decision. They kept looking back and didn't trust that "Road Sign." Robert Frost writes in his poem, The Road Not Taken:
"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by."
He is alluding to the fact that our life's journey reaches a fork where you must choose: left or right. He says we shouldn't obsess over "what if I choose left or right" or what it will hold for us, but rather focus on the now—the present.
Have you ever stayed awake at night wondering, "What if I had just decided differently? What if I had turned left instead of right?" You see, you were looking backward... but the fact remains: it is water under the bridge.
Luke 9:62 says: "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God." We must stop the self-reproach; stop the "if onlys!" It shifts our focus away from Him. Lift your eyes upward to that "Overhead Road Sign" and to that "Painted Sign" that points: El Shaddai, straight ahead. Let Him be your Google Maps, and you will see a path painted with love and indescribable peace.
